Mumbai: DJ’s and loudspeakers won’t be allowed on New Year’s Eve

2017 is about to end, and everyone is busy planning for the New Year Eve celebrations, but state environment ministry is going to play a spoilsport in these celebrations. Ministry has strictly said that DJ’s and loudspeakers restrictions won’t be relaxed.

“No DJ will be allowed because it violates noise pollution norms. Police will take legal action against the organisers. The government has not relaxed norms for using loudspeakers and decibel limits will be strictly implemented,” State Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam told Asian Age. But the state government will allow New Year celebrations in hotels, bars, restaurants, and pubs till 5am on December 31.

The state environment department has also provided equipment to police for measuring noise pollution, and they are empowered to take legal action against those who flout laws. Kadam also added that recently they have taken action against hotels in Mahabaleshwar which has been declared as an eco-sensitive area.

Sources from environment department told Asian Age that, currently there are restrictions on the use of loudspeakers from 10pm to 6am and government has relaxed these timings till 12am instead of 10pm for some days. But there will no provision to give further relaxation till 5am and the Supreme Court verdict is binding on the government.
