Mumbai: Cyber cops slap notices on 34 internet operators in Bhayandar

BHAYANDAR: The cyber cell of the Thane (rural) police has slapped notices on 34 Internet service providers in Mira Bhayandar, seeking clarity on their operational legitimacy and other relevant details. The move is in response to a complaint filed by Department of Telecommunication’s (DoT) vigilance wing and the Prime Minister’s Office directing a detailed probe in context to information about the illegal internet service providing agencies. In the notice, the cyber cell has asked the local net operators to furnish documents including-license obtained from DoT, copy of agreement executed with the parent Internet Service Providers (ISP), customer details, bill books and documents of owned or leased property from which the establishment was operating. “We are ready to comply by the guidelines as this trade is the only source of our livelihood. But why are the big players being spared and only small time franchisee’s like us targeted.” said an operator.
