MUMBAI: The Kalyan Kolsewadi police have arrested a Shiv Sena youth wing leader for allegedly torturing his 30-year-old wife and demanding dowry. The police said that Sanjay More was arrested late night Wednesday and he is resident of Vijay nagar area in Kalyan. According to complaint filed by the woman, the accused has repeatedly been demanding dowry from her,which she could not fulfil. The police said her father in law Jaswant More 70, Vanita More also involved in the case. A further probe into the crime is underway.

Two held for bid to rob jewellery shop

Two men shot a jewellery shopowner in Dombivli on Thursday, in an apparent robbery bid. Nobody was injured in the firing. The two accused, Gopal Yadav, 21, and his accomplice Vikas Singh, were arrested by Tilak Nagar police at Dombivli early on Friday. Ramesh Nahar, the owner of Ramesh Gold Shop stepped outside the shop with an employee, Pradeep Jain, on Thursday night when the accused Yadav and Singh fired a round in the air. Jain immediately alerted passersby, who in turn, alerted police. Subsequently, the public gathered and caught the accused and thrashed them before handing them over to police.

Youth arrested for murder in Borivli

The Mumbai crime branch unit 11 has arrested a man for murdering a 26-year-old, who constantly asked him for money. The accused, Bharat Nitin Das, 20, has been arrested by the police. On July 30, a scuffle had broken out between the victim Ambadas alias Ambu Laxman Shinde, 26, and the accused Das. In a fit of rage, Das murdered Shinde on Shimpoli Road, Borivli.

Robbery attempt

An unidentified man unsuccessfully tried to break an ATM of Corporation Bank at Badlapur west in the early hours of Wednesday. The CCTV footage show the man spraying some liquid on CCTV camera and ATM screen and damaging the machine, said an officer from Badlapur west police. At the time of the incident the guard at the ATM was not present. The incident come to light when the ATM employees came to ATM for some work in the early morning. They immediately reported the matter to the bank manager and the police. On reaching the spot, the investigators carried out an inspection of the little damaged machine and then summoned the footages from cameras installed in and near the ATM booth.
