The Versova police have arrested a man for allegedly hacking social media accounts and extorting money from a former beauty pageant finalist.

According to Hindustan Times, the accused has been identified as Chandraprakash Joshi. The police traced him to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh three days ago and interrogated him. After the interrogation, the Versova police bought him back to Mumbai. The accused was allegedly arrested for hacking the social media accounts and extorting Rs 1 lakh from the former beauty pageant finalist.

The complainant, Arisha Jain, told the cops that she had received an e-mail which said if she doesn’t click on the link (which was mentioned in the mail) her Instagram account would be deleted within 24 hours. A police officer told the leading daily, “She clicked on the link, but nothing happened. She then tried to open her Instagram account, which was blocked. She then tried to access her Facebook and Snapchat accounts that were also blocked, which is when she realised her accounts had been hacked.”
