Bhayandar: A suspected blast in the air-conditioning compressor of a restaurant in Mira Road, left six staff injured on Sunday afternoon. According to the police, the incident was reported from Food King – a restaurant located in the Prime Mall in the plush Kanakia area of Mira Road (east) at around 12 pm.
Interestingly the Prime Mall building which also houses a shopping mall in the ground floor and the PVR Cinema on the upper floor has a continuous footfall of visitors especially on weekends. Fortunately the blast did not affect other gas cylinders. “Had there been visitors in the connected sitting area, the number of casualties could have been much higher. It is a clear case of negligence and we will ensure that a FIR is registered against the hotel owners,” said Fire Officer Prakash Borade.
The owners, however, maintained that it was a minor blast caused due to accumulation of air pressure leading to the breaking of glass panes. While two people were lucky to escape with minor burns, other hotel staff who have sustained severe injuries have been admitted to a private hospital in Mira Road.
“We are conducting a spot panchnama and appropriate action will be taken,” said police sub inspector Shailjeet Kasture. It should be noted that the illegal extensions of the said eatery had been demolished by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC). However, thanks to the corruption prevailing in the local ward office and the blessing bestowed by local politicians, the illegalities resurfaced within no time, posing a serious threat and life of people.
