Mumbai: Centre’s review petition on Podar Mills dismissed

MUMBAI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld its judgment of September 5, 2011 on the ownership of the land on which the nationalised Podar Mills stand at Chinchpokli, Mumbai, and refused further time to the National Textile Corporation to hand over the premises to the land owners. Podar Mills were among 13 cotton mills taken over by the NTC in 1983 while the land owners want the NTC to vacate the premises as the 99-year lease signed by original owners in 1893 has expired.

They won the case in 2011, but the govt tried to overturn the court verdict by enacting an Act in 2014. The Bench dismissed the Centre’s review petition while allowing the trustees to challenge a validation act enacted in 2014 to nullify the Court order in favour of the Trust.
