Mumbai: Kurar police arrested one 33-year-old Dinesh Kanojiya for firing three rounds with a countrymade pistol at carpenter Vishwakarma. The incident took place in Kurar’s Khadu Compound in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. Kanojiya spotted Vishwakarma in a temple and began to verbally abuse him. Kurar police arrested Kanojiya early on Thursday morning and booked him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.

An owner of a cowshed in Kranti Nagar, Kandivli (E), Kanojiya had personal enmity with Vishwakarma, who stays right across the cowshed. The two parties often got into a fight over Vishwakarma’s carpentry work, which Kanojiya complained, disturbed his cows.

Police sources said on November 9, both the parties had a similar argument, in which Vishwakarma publicly insulted Kanojiya. Following this, Kanojiya left the premises in anger and returned to the cowshed late in the night in an inebriated state. At 1am, Kanojiya saw him walking into a temple to pray, as was his habit, and followed him.

As Vishwakarma was settling down to pray, Kanojiya began to abuse the former on the temple premises. An embarrassed Vishwakarma told Kanojiya to go out of the temple and say whatever he wanted.Kanojiya felt insulted again and lost cool. He fired three rounds from a country-made pistol at Vishwakarma.

Inspector Gharge of Kurar police station said, “Fortunately the accused was inebriated and missed his target. However, after the incident, Kanojiya fled the spot.” Awakened by the gunshots, local residents alerted the control room about the incident and police began a search for the accused.

Inspector Gharge said, “We received a tip-off about Kanojiya’s location and followed him to his cousin’s residence at Saki Naka in Andheri. He was arrested early on Thursday and we seized the country-made pistol along with two magazines.”Kanojiya was produced in a court on Thursday and was remanded in police custody till November 20.
