Mumbai: Business Incubation Center proposal is ‘not taken’ in Standing Committee

Mumbai: The proposal of Business Incubation Center, which the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was all set to launch with the help of IIT Bombay’s Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, was not taken by the chairman after it was presented in the Standing Committee on Wednesday.

This happened after corporators sought a detailed presentation of the centre and asked how is the centre viable. “The center is a big responsibility on the BMC and they should have a detailed presentation of the same. It is a good initiative and hence should put out in the open,” said Samajwadi Party group leader Rais Shaikh.

Cong corporator Asif Zakaria also expressed concern about maintenance of the center. “We are spending ample money on machines so we must ensure they are not getting wasted,” he said. The project was approved at the meeting of party group leaders of the BMC in Jan. The civic body had also proposed to get a special purpose vehicle (SPV), SMILE (Society for Mumbai Incubation Lab to Entrepreneurship), for this purpose.
