Mumbai: BMC earns Rs 2 lakh in fines from mosquito breeding spots

Mumbai: After a six-months’ drive from January till June the Insecticide Department of BMC conducted checks in various societies, residential complexes, construction sites and government offices and slapped notices on 8,744 establishments, collecting fines, amounting to Rs 20,4600.

Rajan Naringrekar, of the Insecticide Department, said, “In these six months as per Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act action has been taken against those found to be negligent in preventing mosquito breeding spots. The magistrate’s court has issued summons to them.” Between January 1 and April 30, the civic body detected dengue larvae from 1,997 spots and malaria breeding mosquitoes from 577 spots.
