Mumbai: Biometric survey for BDD chawl nearly complete

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority has already completed more than 90 per cent of the biometric survey of Bombay Directorate Development chawl on N M Joshi marg. MHADA officials said that the survey is essential to prepare the list of eligible beneficiaries for the redevelopment project. Only these beneficiaires will be shifted to the redeveloped structure.

The chawl houses nearly 2,480 residents whose biometric survey is currently being conducted. A senior MHADA official, requesting anonymity, said, “The entire project would be completed in phases. Approximately, seven buildings will be redeveloped in the first phase. In total, there are 32 buildings that will be redeveloped.”

The authorities have roped in Shapoorji Pallonji developers for the redevelopment project of BDD chawl on N M Joshi Marg. The official added that the redevelopment project is a top priority for MHADA. “We are doing every possible thing to speed up the work and complete the project on time. Several bureaucrats and officials are considering this project as a top priority.”
