Mumbai: Two years after 232 lottery winners of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) won flats in Malwani, they have been finally relieved as they will soon get possession of their flats. The winners are not given the possession of their flats as the developer was yet to get the Occupancy Certificate for the building.
The MHADA officials have confirmed that all the formalities for acquiring the OC have been completed. Speaking exclusively with the Free Press Journal. Subhash Lakhe, Chief Executive Officer of Mumbai Board, said, “We have been doing regular follow ups with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to attain the necessary certificates. The flat winners will soon be shifted in their houses.”
The winners of the 2015 lottery were awaiting the possession of their flats since past two years with regular follow up with MHADA officials. Akshay Kudwelkar, one of the lottery winners, said, “The authority has not conveyed us any such development. If we still do not get the possession of the flats, I will lodge a complaint with the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) since we have already paid 100 percent of the flat cost and still not received the possession which is a violation of the Act.”
Kudwelkar, who is a media professional, has been paying EMIs for 11 months now. Another lottery winner said, “The authority should direct developer to register the project with RERA and should take strict action against the firm for the delays.” There are several other flats of the previous MHADA lottery across the city that are yet to receive the OC.
An OC is issued by the BMC or the local municipal corporation to signify that the building is complete as per the approved plan and is in compliance with law without which it is difficult to get water and power connections. There have been numerous complaints made to MHADA for delaying possession of flats by lottery winners. The Free Press Journal had earlier reported that the flats around 306 winners of lottery 2016 are yet to get possession of their flats at Goregaon.
