Mumbai: Amazing red dress, shiny hairdo and soft fur have been the typical traits of Bollywood actor Helen. This is exactly what artist Ranjit Dahiya is planning to include when he paints Helen’s mural.

“I am planning to paint Helen’s mural next. I am looking for sponsors and a wall (high-rise building) to paint. Like most of my paintings, I want to make it larger than life,” added Dahiya, who paints these murals under the name Bollywood Art Projects. He just finished with painting murals of late Shashi Kapoor and Smitha Patil which was in his studio.

Even as he is looking for some assistance to get Helen painted, he hopes the company or person helping him, does not hamper art in name of brand presence. Recalling the mural of Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu, he said, “It’s been a year since that mural was painted. But everytime I recollect that mural I remember how I faced a lot of issues with the person who helped me get the permission. This actually discouraged me to work along with other people,” said Dahiya, Chandigarh-born graphic designer. “I was made to feel obligated. It is difficult to fulfil obligations when you are creating a piece of art. So, I started to do things on my own.”

Last time, Dahiya painted a tallest mural of Amitabh Bachchan which cost him somewhere around Rs 42 lakh and this was sponsored, he added. “I would not say I don’t need sponsors as big projects always need help.” This professor further revealed he is open to creating murals in corporate offices, provided they pay him for the effort. Despite painting so many murals in Bandra, this pet-lover has not got any such offers from corporates.

When quizzed what makes him stick to Bandra, the Bollywood buff said it helps him save on travel expenses. “I need to budget my projects because mostly they are self-funded.” Dahiya is confident that lack of sponsors will not affect his projects. His projects may be delayed but cannot be stopped, he stressed.
