Mumbai: Mumbaikars played a safe Diwali this time as only 40 burn injury cases were reported in the major hospitals of the city. However, 12 people sustained serious injuries for which they are undergoing treatment at the Airoli burn centre. According to doctors at the state-run Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy Hospital, only five patients had brought to the hospital for minor burn injuries due to fire crackers. “None of the patients were admitted to the hospital as most of the cases were not serious. The patients were between the age group of 7-11 years,” said doctor.

A senior doctor from National Burn Centre, Airoli, said they received 12 patient with burn injuries. “The number of burn patients often increases later. We being the biggest burn centre with advanced health facilities, get serious patients later after 2-3 days. So, I won’t be able to comment on the exact number of cases, we will have to wait for that,” said Dr Sunil Manohar Keswani. –Staff Reporter
