Mumbai: 2 trains with passenger amenities flagged off

Mumbai: The Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu, flagged off two new modernized long distance trains – Antyodaya Express and Humsafar Express – with several passenger amenities on Western line on Sunday. The Antyodaya Express train is a fully unreserved train. This train would run between Bandra Terminus and Gorakhpur station in Uttar Pradesh.

The Western Railway officials said that the train is equipped with modern facilities which includes cushion seats, water purifiers and mobile charging points for the benefit of passengers. “The train would leave Bandra Terminus at 5 am and reach Gorakhpur at 5 pm on Monday. This train would depart from Gorakhpur every Tuesday at 3:15 am and arrive Bandra on Wednesday at 4:15 pm,” said the Public Relations Officer of Western Railway.

The train consists of 16 general coaches and would halt at Borivali, Surat, Vadodara, Ratlam, Kota, Bharatpur, Mathura Junction, Kasganj, Kanpur Central, Lucknow, Gonda and Naugarh stations in both directions. The second Humsafar Express which is set to run between Bandra Terminus to Patna was also launched by Prabhu. This train is fully air-conditioned with Global Positioning System (GPS)-based passenger information system.

“The train is also equipped with smoke detection, integrated braille display for blind persons. This train also has a new interior with an attractive colour scheme,” said an official. The train would leave from Bandra Terminus every Sunday at 12:55 pm and would reach Patna at 10:15 pm. This train would leave from Patna every Tuesday at 11:10pm and reach Bandra on Thursday at 7:35am.

Prabhu also launched several passenger amenities on the western line. Facilities including Wi-Fi services were provided at Vasai and Virar stations.  A new lift was inaugurated at Borivali station on platform number 10. “At least 13 additional lifts with an estimated cost of Rs 40 lakh each would be provided by this year end,” said Prabhu.
