BHOPAL: Sportspersons of the state capital are quite annoyed over political parties as they failed to keep the promises they made in their manifestos because these promises always remain unfulfilled. They express their satisfaction when the parties give ‘importance’ to sports in the manifestos.

The biggest promise made by the ruling BJP in its manifesto is to set up ‘Captain Roop Singh Bains Sports Preparatory School’ in Raisen, where apart from sports training, the players would also get education till college level. Another promise is that formation of a ‘Special Sports Talent Spotter team’which will find talent from all-over the state. The Congress is not far behind and it has promised to open new academies and launch new schemes for welfare of sportspersons.

The party has also promised to give government jobs to Vikaram Awardees and if they fail to provide jobs then Rs15,000 will be given to sportspersons per month while Olympic medalists will get Rs 51,000. The party has also promised to increase sports quota in government jobs and PSUs. ‘State Olympics’ will also be conducted every year according to the party manifesto. Another promise made by the Congress is that the CEO, Zila Panchayat would be made Nodal Sports Officer.

International Cricketer As a sportsperson, I have been watching manifestos of various parties for the past 25 years and they always pay attention to sports before the election but they forget to keep their promises after the elections. Implementation of the schemes and promises are not made on the ground and they remain mere promises. Although the manifestos of both parties are good, let’s hope for their implementation.

Kamal Chawla

International Snooker Player I don’t support any party and I am glad to see that parties are concerned about development of sports in the state. In my opinion, the sportspersons should be given various positions in the sports department as only a sportsperson can understand the actual problem faced by other sportspersons. This will be helpful for development of sports in the state.

Syed Jalaluddin Rizvi

Hockey Olympian Both the parties have laid focus on sports in their manifestos but they fail to materialize and remain on papers only. Bhopal has given many great hockey players to the state and the country. Once there used be several hockey grounds in the city but now only a few are left and they too illmaintained. It is necessary to find out talents from rural areas.

GL Yadav

Arjun Awardee Though the BJP and Congress have prepared good manifestos, the time will tell whether the winning party implements the manifesto. State playersm, particularly, sailors of the state, need proper training and more exposure for better result.

JP Singh

Chief Football Coach-Sports and Youth Welfare Deptt, MP Manifestos of both the mainstream parties are good but more stress should be given to the sports which are given less importance.
