BHOPAL : The Metro Rail Company would have to make 35 per cent of purchases for Metro project in Bhopal and Indore from Japanese companies. This condition has been put forth by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) for giving loan for the project.
Officials of four companies are also coming to the city on Thursday, along with the JICA team. These companies have executed Metro projects in other parts of the world and want to take the contract for Bhopal-Indore projects.
The condition put by JICA for means that Japanese Companies will have to be preferred while placing purchase orders for the project. The companies which are to be given work in the Metro Project are associates of JICA. Attempts are being made to involve Japanese companies with the project from the beginning.
The government is taking a loan of Rs 12,000 crore at an interest rate of 0.3 per cent per annum from JICA for the project. The government is not revealing the fact that the contracts for the project will be given to Japanese firms. The tenders to be floated for the project will be designed in such a manner as to enable Japanese companies to bid for the contract. A meeting on Metro Mission will be held on Thursday at Mantralaya and Directorate of Urban Administration. Representatives of the government will hold discussions with the reps of Japanese firms in the meeting at UAD office.
