Party spokesman Anand Sharma said: “Our Armed Forces have always responded as per the need or provocation whenever it came to defending our mother land.”
He said the nation should not ever be made to believe that “the Indian Forces in the past were taking a beating without responding effectively.”
Sharma said the details of earlier such actions are there with the defence establishment that took such decisions in the past.
In the wisdom of the UPA, the political “ownership” of such actions of the Army was not considered necessary,” he said in reply to a question, stressing that the previous government was never interested in earning brownie points.
He also made it clear that the Congress continues to give complete endorsement and support to the government of the day on Pakistan. The Indian Armed Forces have full support of the Congress in their fight against terrorism, he added.
However, he said no use boasting as done by the ruling BJP leaders that India has given a befitting reply to Pakistan for the Uri attack. “Pakistan has been exposed but not isolated as within 48 hours of Uri attack, the Russian special force conducted joint operations very near Gilgit,” he said. Hitting out at Pakistan for orchestrating terror attacks against India, Sharma said it is a matter of concern that Pakistan refuses to learn from the past.
