MBMC Polls: Social media route to tutor colour code in EVM

Bhayandar: As the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) goes to polls on August 20, voters will soon get a first-hand experience on the process of voting through videos that will be posted on the civic website and social media platforms including Facebook and YouTube.

The videos will be self-explanatory having a voiceover to explain every step after the voter reaches the polling booth, officials said. For the first time, citizens of the twin-city will be casting their vote for four members at a time. Interestingly a voter will have to vote for all four seats in his ward or else the vote will be considered invalid.

“The EVM will buzz only after a voter casts his vote for all the four seats in every panel named A, B, C and D except for panel number 24 which has only three seats. People who do not want to elect a candidate can press None of the Above (NOTA) button. But voting for all four seats is a must. Every seat will be colour-coded to help people differentiate,” informed civic chief Dr. Naresh Gite.

The four seats in every panel will be colour coded and named A (white), B (light pink), C (light yellow) and D ( light blue)  and every voter will have to elect four candidates, one from each seat. While one candidate has been elected unopposed from ward number 22, every ward (except for  number 24 having 3 options A, AB,C) will have a panel of four corporators.  The Electronic Voting machines would be installed with buzzers that will hoot upon successful completion of voting.
