Maratha quota protest site turns into wedding venue, as couple ties knot during Maharashtra bandh

Mumbai: The impact of the bandh was all-too evident in Akola on Thursday morning. However, unlike other parts of the state where there were sporadic incidents of violence, in Deulgaon village of Akot taluka, protesters went from sloganeering to showering blessings on a couple who tied the knot at the time of the bandh. The air was rent with slogans by the Maratha community but the minute the couple arrived, the slogans turned to chants and blessings for the newly-weds.

Tejasvini Gawande wed Abhimanyu Adhav at Shetkari Sadan in Deulgaon. The Gawandes and Adhavs had agreed to participate in the Sakal Maratha Kranti Morcha, supporting reservation for the Maratha community.The couple and their families chose to hold the event at this venue, which had been selected for the ‘andolan’. The couple tied the knot with the agitators as their witnesses. The country has witnessed varied hues of Maratha morchas, ranging from silent to violent. However, this marriage at Akot taluka was emotional and a one-of-a-kind gathering.
