Man hit and killed by Boeing passenger plane in Russian while trying to avoid deportation

An Armenian man was killed on Tuesday evening after was ran over by a passenger plane taking off from Sheremetyevo Airport, the man reportedly fled across the runaway while he was being deported. Officials said the 25-year-old had died after being hit by Boeing 737, the plane was going to Athens from Moscow.

The name of the man was Albert Yepremyan, he was discovered after the jet’s crew told air traffic control to investigate the incident, the Jet crew thought that ran over an animal in darkness. According to officials, Yepremyan was in the process of being deported from Spain, he was about to be transported to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, but he escaped and ran to the runway.

“The man went through the airport gate during boarding for a Moscow-Yerevan flight, went to the bus, but quickly headed towards the runway instead of getting in,” an unnamed Airport official told Russian Interfax, a news agency. “On the flight from Madrid, Mr Yepremyan had started a fight. After landing, police were called on board and detained him,” the official continued.

The aircraft involved in the incident has landed safely at Athens International Airport later that evening. Though the ground crew discovered some small damage. Sledkom , Russia’s main federal investigation body, said in the statement that they are investigating the case of Albert Yepremyan. The organisation also said that they will look at the airport’s security.

“After going through the check-in procedure for the flight , the man gathered with other passengers and proceeded to board the aircraft,” Sledkom said. “Subsequently, under circumstances that are not currently understood, the young man, when boarding an apron bus, proceeded towards the airport runways. After that, the man stepped onto the runway number two in the area of the alpha taxiway, where he was fatally injured by the acceleration of the Boeing 737 aircraft.” Sledkom added.
