Indore : Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Saturday urged people to work for the elimination of corruption and making the country corruption-free by 2022. For building ‘New India’, we need to launch ‘unite India’ movement, she said.
The LS Speaker was addressing the inaugural function of an exhibition on country’s freedom struggle and vision of ‘New India’ at Gandhi Hall. On this occasion Union minister of state for women and child development Dr Virendra Kumar was also present.
Mahajan said that corruption is prevalent in the country since Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure as prime minister. So, the fight against corruption is continuing since then. But now we all have to pledge to eradicate this stigma by 2022 and make the country corruption-free.
The exhibition is being organised as part of the diamond jubilee of ‘Quit India Movement’. Mahajan said, “In the changed scenario, we need to launch ‘Unite India Movement’ like the Quite India Movement, what was launched 75 years ago by father of nation Mahatma Gandhi. We also need to combat against poverty, communalism and casteism. If we could do that, then only we can say that we have transformed independence into good-governance.
Union minister Dr Kumar also laid emphasis on making contribution in making New India by 2022. He highlighted the initiatives rolled out by NDA government at the centre and expressed confidence that his government will achieve it.
Earlier, Mahajan and Dr Kumar inaugurate the exhibition by lighting the lamp.
