Mumbai: Highlyplaced source from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) revealed the Shiv Senaleadership conditionally agreed to forge alliance with the BJP. The talks areyet limited between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Sena chief UddhavThackeray. The source claimed the BJP wanted to contest 30 seats of the LokSabha and offered 18 seats to the Sena, whereas the BJP has shown to contest143 of assembly seats to contest and offered Sena to field on 137 seats.
The sources claimed once seat-sharing formula will befinalised, the negotiations will be held about actuals seats and the exchangeof some seats between three members committee of each including BJP ministers andSena leaders including Rajya Sabha (RS) member Anil Desai.
The BJP had contested 26 seats in 2014 Lok Sabha polls andwon 23 seats, whereas the Sena had contested 22 seats and won 18 seats. Thesources said, “The BJP offered the Sena to contest sitting 18 seats and the BJPwill contest 30 seats, an additional four from previous formula. The BJP isready to share seats to its allies from their own quota.” The BJP and the Senahad contested the 2014 assembly polls separately. The BJP won 123 and the Senahad won 63 out of total 288 seats. “Now, the BJP has offered Sena to field itscandidates in 137 seats, whereas the BJP will contest on 143 seats. But theSena has to share seats with allies from their own quota is the condition putby the BJP,” said the BJP source. The Sena leadership is not ready for the seatsharing formula for assembly polls. Sena wanted 150 seats and ready to shareseats with small allies from their own quota. Sena has to give seats toSadabhau Khot of Rayat Kranti Sena, Vinayak Mete of Shiv Sangram Party and afew others.
“The Sena will be beneficial as they will get almost doublethe seats than they won in 2014, whereas the BJP is ready to suffer loss, asthey have sitting 123 members and ready to contest only 143, mere 21 more seatsthan the sitting,” said the BJP source. The Sena insider said, “Last time theyhad demanded 151 seats. If the BJP is ready to offer 137, they must giveadditional 13 seats to reach us at 150 seats.” The discussion on seat sharingis at CM and Thackeray level and yet to finalise it.
