Mumbai: People falling under the category of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) will now get Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) houses for as less as Rs 9.5 lakh. At least 3139 flats along with 29 land parcels will be up for grabs in Pune and Pimpri/Chinchwad.
People can now apply via online for these flats starting May 19 and the lottery system will be conducted on June 30. Apart from EWS, middle class applicants falling under category of Middle Income Groups (MIG) will be able to purchase flats amounting to Rs 26 lakhs. Whereas, the people falling under category of Lower Income Groups (LIG) can purchase flats amounting Rs 14 lakh. “The applications will be accepted only online on MHADA’s official website. The people will be able to apply starting from 12 noon on Saturday May 19,” said a senior MHADA official. The officials said that similar rules will be applicable for the upcoming lottery like last year. This is considered to be one of the biggest lottery offering largest number of flats outside Mumbai.
The officials also said special attention has been given to the EWS and LIG applicants. This year, the authority has planned to conduct a lottery for at least 1000 houses by constructing maximum houses under Economic Weaker Section (EWS) category this year. The authority has planned to construct at least 400 houses under EWS category. The officials said that more efforts were being taken to construct more houses under EWS category as against the previous year’s allocation, where only 192 houses were constructed in the same category.
“We have planned to allot at least 200 flats under category of Middle Income Group (MIG) and at least 380 houses have been allotted under the category of Lower Income Group (LIG),” added the official. Among the 400 houses to be constructed under EWS, at least 100 flats would be reserved in areas of Mankhurd and around 300 flats have been planned to be constructed in Antop Hill.
