30-year-old Motilal Prajapati and his family have a big reason to celebrate Diwali ahead of time because Motilal Prajapati, a daily wager recently dug out second biggest diamond in the history of Panna’s diamond mines.
The diamond found by Motilal was of 42.9 carat, which makes it the second heaviest in the history of Panna shallow diamond mines. The first place is grabbed by the diamond found in 1961 and it was a 44.55 carat diamond found in the shallow mines of Panna, said Santosh Singh diamond officer of Panna. “The gem quality precious stone has been valued at over Rs 1.5 crore. We will auction it according to government rules in the coming days,” said Santosh Singh, the diamond officer of Panna district to Times of India.
Holding the 42.9 carat diamond in between his fingers, Motilal said, “Maza aa gayaa. This would help serve his elderly mother and father. Hope the poverty of the family will go away.”
Speaking about the conditions of his family Motilal said, “This would not only help improve my family’s financial situation, I would be able to come out of the debt . My two children would be able to study in good schools.”
Now that Motililal has the found the diamond he has to submit it to district administration. The state auctions the diamond and after subtracting the royalty they will give the amount to Motilal. Finds are very rare. But thanks to Motilal, the legend lives on.
