India continued their domination on the third day and are on their way to a big win against hapless Sri Lankans. India by not enforcing the follow-on have put on 189/3 in second innings and are leading by 498 runs. Captain Virat Kohli and Abhinav Mukund put on 133 runs for the third wicket and Kohli is nearing yet another Test century. For Sri Lanka captain, Rangana Herath left the field due to finger injury and were just going through the motions.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka showed some resistance as Dilruwan Perera scored an enterprising 92 not out. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India by picking up three wickets for 67 runs. All the Indian bowlers looked in rhythm and would be looking forward to bowl Sri Lanka out again in the second innings. SL faces a mammoth task to save the match and will have to play out of their skins to escape with a draw.
