Excise Department has issued a notification stating the restriction on the sale of liquor on the liquor shops located in the city and Simhastha Mela premises during Mahakumbh.

It has also been clarified that the 17 liquor shops situated out of the fair area will also remain shut on the days of Shahi Snan i.e. on April 22, May 9 and May 21. 9 liquor shops situated on different approaching roads to the city had been shut down during Simhastha 2004 after declaring the fair area a sacred place. There is no liquor shop being operated in the sacred area. The sale of liquor is restricted on the days of Shahi Snan in the Mahakumbhs of Allahabad, Haridwar and Nasik. A staff of 100 officials from local and adjoining district will keep a strict watch on the illicit transportation and sale of liquor in the city. They will be deputed on 5 main routes of the city.
