The Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 day one kick started with a lavish affair held at the Reliance Jio Garden in Bandra Kurla Complex. As always the first day was dedicated to our future in fashion and began with its Gen Next show with a fresh batch of fashion gurus in the making.

INIFD presented the 23rd Batch of Gen Next stars which was a stylish blast on the ramp when the talented designers showcased their neo-futuristic creations mentored beautifully by fashion expert Sabina Chopra; for the very appreciative audience who witnessed the show with heightened excitement.

Pallavi Singh presented her label ARCVSH with a collection quaintly called “Tokyo-Delhi”.

Featured in several fashion magazines in India and New York, Nakita Singh, Kolkata’s new fashion star unveiled her collection “Outline” that was inspired by the outline forms of doodle and art.

Ishanee Mukherjee and Anirudh Chawla ensured that their label “Poochki” focused not only on Indian textiles and hand crafts but also projected their imaginative fauna prints with block carving and printing.

Multi-award winner, Soumodeep Dutta was the star student of NIFT Kolkata and called his collection “Connecting Link”, which had a spiritual flavour that aimed to understand the basics of the Supreme Power.

“The Pot Plant” label by Resham Karmchandani and Sanya Suri believed in the dictate – fuss-free fashion with zero waste through up-cycling.

“The Khadi Way”- the eternal fabric of freedom in India inspired the brand ‘11.11/eleven eleven’ once again at the show.

Moving ahead from the label’s collection last season, the look now focused on lunar block prints in a new image. The ombré story went a notch further, while the signature Bandhani appeared in fresh hues of smoke, wine, ochré along with ivory, whiskey, gold and shades of the ever-popular indigo. The motifs this season were interpreted through hand painting and block prints.

Karishma Shahani Khan’s ubiquitous label ‘Ka-Sha’ made a unique fashion statement. The inspiration was a vintage image of sari-clad lady in a trench coat; which set Karishma’s creativity in top gear. The collection was a line of contrasting garments that merged effortlessly on the ramp. The graceful, versatile, flowing sari with the structured trench coat was turned into a great fusion statement.

The ‘Antar-Agni’ label by Ujjawal Dubey has acquired quite a loyal following amongst the trend setters of both sexes. His unconventional creativity with great construction techniques has made Ujjawal’s garments conversation pieces.

Starting off as a Gen Next designer for men’s wear at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014, Anuj Bhutani’s ‘Reboot’ label made an impression for the coming season. Anuj’s creativity moved into the sustainable fashion territory for men and women, but he kept true to the theme, as he used an assortment of jute, khadi and cotton in earthy tones.

Aimed at the multi-tasking, jet setting, high powered, 21st century, woman, “The Faces” collection by Ishita Mangal for her ‘QUO’ was a many dimensional offering.

The high fashion line of apparel in a combination of sporty street wear with large doses of bling was a veritable smorgasbord of style and substance.

It was a collection that wafted like a summer breeze on the ramp. Soft water colour hues merged with block prints, floral chintzy versions with distressed finishes that ended with lace inlays and pretty, cross stitch embroidery. That, in a nutshell was Rina Singh’s mélange of summer wear under her label EKA.

Bringing the unconventional fashion styling of AM.IT by Amit Aggarwal along with stunning makeup and hair, Lakmé Salon showcased extreme, dramatic, creativity, at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 to end Day One.
