Karjat woman ends life after dowry harassment

Mumbai: Karjat police arrested a husband and in-laws for alleged abetment of suicide of a 48-year-old woman on Friday evening. Darshana Kanta Dhule had allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Thursday evening at her marital home.

“The deceased was tortured mentally as well as physically by her husband Kanta Nanu Dhule (41). She was not given food for days together. Her husband used to beat her up,” informed the Karjat police.

“The mother-in-law of the deceased, Laxmi Nanu Dhule (65) and father-in-law of the deceased, NanuKalu Dhule (72) along with their daughter Pramila Nanu Dhule (26) used to provoke Kanta to torture the deceased over dowry demands,” police further stated. The deceased was not financially well off and was not in a position to meet their dowry demands. The four accused used to keep making dowry demands at intervals.

Earlier, the father of the deceased had managed to fulfil a few of their demands. The father of the deceased Ramchandra Karale (65) approached the Karjat police and registered a case.
