Life’s a beach

I am a beach bum. Any place with a beach tops my list when I’m in a mood for a vacation. Goa for a short break, and if I have more time, then South of France is my favourite. Nothing makes me happier than warm oceans and sandy beaches. With a book on the beach, I’m happiest!

Exploring new places

I try going to new places and I do a lot of online research for exotic holiday destinations. Travel blogs is what I follow a lot. Also, I keep in touch with friends that I make during my travels. Some wonderful places have been recommended by them.

Love ‘me’ time

I love vacationing with family and friends, but what I cherish the most is solo trips. I love my me time! It’s a time when I can just be me – no pressure, no set agenda. They all have their own charm, but my time alone is what I love the most.

Travel inspiration

Travel feeds my soul. It magnifies human emotions. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do,” – this quote by Mark Twain really inspires me.

Digital detox

I always am on a digital detox when I travel. Staying away from my phone and laptop is important during holidays to reduce stress or to focus on social interactions in the physical world. Besides, I travel mostly for new experiences. How would that be possible if I am distracted by my phone!? But, I would never go completely off the grid. I have family and friends who would worry if I’d disappear from the radar. They are supportive of my solo trips provided I keep them informed of my well-being. One has to travel responsibly.

Highs and lows

One of the best places I visited would be Bali. I love the fact that it has both mountains and beaches. It has a quiet side as well as a busy, party area that one can enjoy if in the mood. Bali’s secret beaches and serene waterfalls, also the rich culture is truly amazing. I don’t think there was ever a worse place I have visited so far but, Phuket makes me uncomfortable. With all the prostitution and extreme parties, it’s a place I absolutely avoid if I’m travelling alone.

Tips ahoy

Arranging for a local SIM card is on the top of my list. Only my family has the number and they can reach me when they need to. A flight pillow keeps me comfortable on long flights. And, I try to learn a few words of the local language. This I swear by, as it keeps me sailing through awkward situations.

Overcoming jet lag

I usually try and get to my destination by evening; get a good night’s sleep and energise for the trip. It costs me an extra night at the hotel, but it is worth it. I kick the jet lag out of the window immediately, so I’m not grumpy and enjoy every minute of the vacation wherever I am.

On my bucket list

I have a long travel bucket list… there is much left to explore. Mexico tops my list. Then comes Puerto Rico. Will try and do them this next year.
