Yes, we can nourish our skin and hair without spending a fortune on products that have chemicals and damage our hair and skin. One such product is ‘Avocado’. The fruit is rich in antioxidants, essential omega-3 fats, and vitamin E. It is highly nutritious and contains more potassium than bananas. Avocado also helps to reduce cholesterol and reduce the risk of cancer. The fruit also proves beneficial when it comes to tackling hair and skin issues. And there is no second thought why avocados are today used in a lot of cosmetic products. Avocado oil is thought to have numerous benefits for your skin, like moisturizing or acting as a natural sunblock. The oil can be directly applied to skin or hair or even can be mixed with other beauty products.
According to a study conducted by the US National Library of Medicine in 2013, avocado oil helps to heal wounds. The linoleic acid, oleic acid and other monosaturated fatty acids present in the oil help in the speedy recovery of wounds.

First producer of avocado oil in India
Miral and Rushabh Parikh are the brains behind ‘Black and Green’, the producer of India’s first 100 percent organic and multipurpose avocado oil. Talking about the brand, Rushabh says, “We are a homegrown brand for avocado oil and we do all the value addition in the country. Our oil is light and natural and is made from Hass avocados, the most premium one in the world. It is edible and also used for hair and skin care, making it India’s first true multi-purpose oil. Our brand has medical certification from the Government of France.” A 250 ml bottle of avocado oil comprises 25 to 30 Hass avocados, while a 500 ml bottle has over 55 to 60 Hass avocados.
The oil is cold press to perfection and does not comprise any chemicals, solvent or preservatives. The only procedure they follow is pulp the avocado and separate the oil using water. Rushabh suggests replacing our everyday cooking oil with avocado oil. He says, “Due to the high smoke point you can actually cook in the oil. The smoke point is between 275 and 300-degree Celsius, other oils are nearly half. So when you heat the oil, it doesn’t become cancer producing.” ‘Black and Green’ also plans to produce healthy chocolate spread and mayonnaise made out of avocado oil.
