Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their winning run in the ongoing IPL as they beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a massive 102 runs at the Eden Gardens. MI got off to a good start thanks to openers Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis. But the ultimate hero of the match was wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan. The former U-19 skipper played a brilliant knock of 62 runs in 31 balls.
Ishan came to bat when Mumbai lost their in-form opener Suryakumar Yadav for 36. Ishan made his intentions clear the very first over when he faced Kuldeep Yadav and hit the bowl for a huge six. Ishan replicated MS Dhoni when he struck a six, courtesy a ‘helicopter shot’ to Yadav’s full-length delivery. Kishan was standing deep in the crease read the ball perfectly and hammered it over cow corner.
Talking about the match, MI, who were on the edge of getting eliminated, bounced back. Against KKR, MI posted a mammoth 210 runs. KKR chasing the huge total got off to the worst start possible as Mitchell McClenaghan removed Sunil Narine off the second ball of the innings itself. Robin Uthappa then joined Chris Lynn in the middle and the duo started to hit boundaries to steady the KKR ship. But, Lynn was run-out by Suryakumar Yadav. Lynn was followed by Uthappa who was dismissed by Mayank Markande for 14.
Earlier, Ishan smashed a 17-ball half-century as MI overcame a slow start to post an imposing 210/6. Ishan tore apart KKR bowling, especially Kuldeep Yadav who was clobbered for four consecutive sixes.
