IPL 2017 Final MI vs RPS: Highlights, photos and reactions

On Sunday, Mumbai Indians beat Pune Supergiant by just one run to lift the coveted IPL Season 10 Trophy in a low-scoring final. The game brought cricket fans across the world on the edge of their seats.

It was some exceptional death bowling by Lasith Malinga, Mitchell Johnson and Jasprit Bumrah which did the trick for Rohit in a match where the two-time champions were completely off-colour in the first half of the game.

Chasing the target, Bumrah gave Supergiant an early blow by picking up the wicket of Rahul Tripathi (3) but Ajinkya Rahane (44 off 38 balls) and skipper Steve Smith added 54 runs for the second wicket and brought the match in their favour.

Pune were cruising along nicely till the Mumbaikar tried to play a chip shot, which Kieron Pollard ran from his long-on position, and completed a nice catch diving forward.

Tough Competition

Both the teams were neck and neck by the end of the 15th over with Supergiant on 83 in comparison to Mumbai Indians’ 81.

For Pune, Adam Zampa, Daniel Christian and Jaydev Unadkat took two wickets a piece and restricted Mumbai Indians to a score which was the lowest in all IPL finals till date.

Comments on match

Rohit Sharma

“There was assistance from the pitch, so it was a matter of exploiting the conditions. When three overs were left, I had confidence in the bowlers. They have always done the job wherever they’ve played. It was about giving freedom to them because they’re the masters and they’ve done it before. I just told them to do whatever they want and set the field accordingly,” MI skipper Rohit said after the match.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah said,”The way we fought was absolutely amazing. We thought we can defend, we have the bowlers.”

Mitchell Johnson

Johnson, who took two wickets in the last over, said”I wasn’t thinking much. I had a clear plan, to bowl at the stumps. Pressure situations are you are playing game for. I have done that before. It’s my second time (IPL titles).”

Sachin Tendulkar

MI mentor Sachin Tendulkar described the outcome of the low-scoring match as “simply amazing.”
