While there have been many leaks and rumors released for the iPhone 8, it still remains one of the most talked about the upcoming phone this year. It is perhaps the most anticipated phone since the original iPhone in 2007. Consequently, leaks about this extensive redesign have been unparalleled, but now they have reached a new high. Much of the tech news for months now have been covering rumours of the said phone ranging from assembly issues to component specifications.
There were new reports from last week that might shed some light on Apple’s upcoming flagship phone. There reports pertain to issues like the phone’s wireless modem, its size, and the vertical dual camera on its back.
Intel wireless modems
Apple has been known to use Qualcomm-made wireless modems on the iPhone. In fact, back in 2016, 70 percent of the iPhones sold used a chip that was manufactured by Qualcomm. However, it seems like this year Apple will be favoring Intel-made wireless modems more and more. According to a report, Apple has increased the order volume for Intel wireless modems to 50 percent. This is a considerable increase since last year, only 30 percent of the iPhones sold contain wireless chips from Intel.
iPhone 8 size
On a slightly more interesting topic, last week, the guys at iDrop News were kind enough to share what they think the iPhone 8 would look like when released. Furthermore, the website also shared additional images of the iPhone 8 renders showing how big it will be compared to other Smartphones. In one of the images, it can be seen that the new phone is only slightly taller than the 4.7-inch iPhone 7.
Vertical dual camera
Apart from the mockup units shared by Geskin, Slashleaks also leaked the CAD drawing that has been the basis of the renders done by iDrop News. It can be seen that dual camera setup for the iPhone 8 is in vertical position. This new leak strengthens the earlier rumors about the said camera setup. Furthermore, one can see from the image that the cameras are separated by the LED flash. Another interesting bit about this leak is the circular outline near the rear cameras. Experts also speculated that this might be the Touch ID sensor for the iPhone 8.
