Indore: Woman loses 49.4 kg with belly balloon method

A middle aged woman lost 49.4 kilograms of weight through belly balloon technique in 10 months as the team of laproscopic surgeons who worked on it said this is the highest volume of weight reduced through the method in the country.

Laparoscopic surgeon Dr Vishal Jain told mediapersons on Saturday that Tabassum Bano (name changed) weighing 109 kgs was administered gastric balloon in January 2018. “Recently, we removed balloon and she has successfully lost 49.4 kgs of weight from 109 kgs to 59.6 kgs in just 10 months.”

Talking about the technique, Dr Jain said, “The gastric balloon is a medical grade, saline-filled silicon balloon that rests in the stomach cavity and decreases appetite by occupying approximately a third of stomach volume. In addition, with the gastric balloon in place, the stomach empties more slowly, keeping you feeling full longer, you feel full with less food by this balloon.”

The intra gastric balloon is inserted during one-day stay. Its procedure takes 30 minutes and is performed under general anesthesia. No incisions are required and patient can go home the very next day. The intra gastric balloon is a tool to aid weight loss and yields better result when one follows prescribed diet, exercises. “Belly balloon technique is safe and non-surgical method for weight loss,” Dr Jain remarked.
