Indore: Here is good news for candidates wishing to pursue doctoral research degree programme from Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT). The RRCAT will soon invite applications for its PhD programmes.

“Registrations will start from March 19 and continue till April 16,” a release issued here said.

RRCAT, a Constituent Institute of ‘Homi Bhabha National Institute’ (HBNI), is a Deemed University. It invites students with appropriate qualifications to pursue PhD programme in various specialised areas of physics, chemistry, life sciences and engineering sciences.

As per the rules of HBNI, the PhD programme consists of course work and research work leading to thesis. The PhD 2017 programme will commence on August 1.

DAE Junior Research Fellowships will be offered to those selected for the pursuit of PhD. The fellowship amount is Rs 25,000 per month for the first two years and Rs 28,000 per month for the subsequent years, subject to satisfactory yearly progress.

Candidates wishing to do PhD in Physics should have MSc degree in Physics with a minimum of 60% marks and have cleared Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST 2017) and/or CSIR-UGC NET in June/Dec 2016 (JRF, not lecturership).

Candidates wishing to do PhD in Chemistry and Life Sciences should have MSc degree with minimum 60% overall marks, in chemistry or Life Sciences, and have cleared joint CSIR-UGC Net in June/ December 2016 (JRF, not lecturership).

Those applicants who are completing the qualifying degree in summer of 2017 can also apply, provided they have minimum of 60% overall marks in the completed semesters. In the event of their selection, the final degree mark sheet would have to be submitted by November 1.

Continuation in the PhD programme will be subject to the candidate obtaining minimum 60% marks overall. 5 year integrated MS (of IISERs) will be treated at par with 5 year integrated MSc. The selection of the students for the PhD programme will be a two-step process. In the first step, screening of the applications would be done and in the second step interview of the short-listed candidates would be conducted by the selection committees at RRCAT.
