Indore: University Grants Commission (UGC) with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released a detailed notification for the National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) on Monday.
CBSE will conduct the next UGC NET for Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Assistant Professor on November 5 (Sunday). Candidates are required to apply online from August 1 and the last date for online application is August 30. Fee can be paid up to August 31.
The examination is generally conducted biannually in July and December. However, this year the examination is delayed and July’s exam is postponed to November disturbing the system.
As per sources, this delay is a result of CBSE’s request not to be the conducting body, as it is also conducting the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) and the Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) main.
Overlooking the same, the request was revoked recently. Thus, it was ascertained that CBSE will conduct the paper.
Candidates who clear UGC NET will be eligible for Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professorship at various government approved higher educational institutions in the country.
CBSE will conduct NET in 84 subjects at 90 selected NET Examination Cities spread across the country.
The candidates who qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also eligible for Assistant Professor.
The universities, institutions, IITs and other national organisations may select the JRF awardees for whole time research work in accordance with the procedure prescribed by them.
The award of JRF and Eligibility for Assistant Professor both OR Eligibility for Assistant Professor only will depend on the performance of the candidate in all three papers of NET. However, the candidates qualifying exclusively for Assistant Professor will not be considered for award of JRF.
The notification highlights, “The role of CBSE is only up to the conduct of NET Examination and declaration of result. The e-certificates to qualified candidate are issued by UGC- NET Bureau.”
