Indore: State finance minister Jayant Malaiyya on Friday said that the state government has constituted a two-member panel, comprising state excise commissioner and joint director, finance, to probe into the excise scam.
Malaiyya , who is also minister in-charge of the district, was in city to attend District Planning Committee. Talking to reporters, he said, “We are yet to ascertain as to whether it is confined to Rs 25 crore or more.” He said that a few parties had deposited Rs 8 crore in state exchequer. A few FIRs were being lodged.
The minister said that the probe panel would investigate the entire issue and strict action would be initiated against the guilty on the basis of the findings of the committee.
No more challans, only online payments
Learning from the excise scam, the state government has decided to make online payments mandatory in such cases. No payments would be accepted by state exchequer through challans, he said.
The minister further said that staff had been deployed to cross check the paid challans. However, those who were assigned the job failed to perform their duty diligently. The probe team would also investigate the role of such persons.
On allegation of bribe being demanded by bank officials for clearing education loan, the minister admitted that a few complaints were received and the collector was currently reviewing them. A transparent mechanism would be developed after consultation with lead District Bank Manager to avoid any such incident in future.
Narmada water in Bilawli Talab
Earlier, addressing the meeting of the district planning committee Maiayya said that possibility of releasing Narmada water, through Narmada-Kshipra Link Scheme (NKLS) into Bilawli Talab too would studied. A report would be prepared in this regard. The minister also reviewed progress of ‘Housing for all’ and ‘School Chhale Hum’ (lets go to school) scheme in the district.
