Indore: Is thanksgiving programme cursed?

Cancelled thrice before, this programme was never tending to happen. And, yet when time came, natural calamity razed the pandal set up for the programme.  Indore municipal corporation (IMC) had initially proposed to hold the programme in the second week of May, days after Indore was declared cleanest city across the country by Swachh Survekshan 2017.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was supposed to visit the city and express gratitude to residents who contributed in the IMC’s efforts to make neat, clean and hygienic. But he cancelled his visit to the city citing some emergent situation, which he had to deal with in Bhopal. The development forced the IMC to cancel the programme. After consulting the CM, the IMC then announced to organise the programme on May 16. But the programme was again cancelled and was rescheduled to May 18 on the suggestion of the CM.

But, according to sources, Lok Sabha speaker and local MP Sumitra Mahajan wanted thanksgiving programme to take place on June 5, the World Environment Day. She had reportedly told who’s who of IMC that she would be bringing Union urban development minister MV Naidu to the city on that day but the IMC was not interest on the proposal, the sources claimed. But when the information regarding Naidu reaching to the city on June 5 reached to Ch0uhan he directed the IMC to cancel the programme scheduled on May 18 and reschedule it World Environment Day. Following the instructions, the IMC cancelled the programme and rescheduled it on June 5.
