Indore: Recipient of the first heart transplant in MP was discharged from Medanta Hospital here on Sunday. He was discharged after three weeks of procedure and will take more than a month to return to routine chores of life.
Sanjay Agrawal, 47, a resident of Mhow, has got a new lease of life after successful heart transplant surgery, performed for the first time in the state. Family members of Agrawal expressed gratitude towards the family members of Veena Pariyani, whose organs were donated after being declared brain dead on March 10.
Heart of Pariyani was harvested in Choithram Hospital and was transported to Medanta Hospital through the 16th ‘Green Corridor’ formed in the city. Dr Anil Bhan and Dr Sandeep Shrivastava successfully performed the first heart transplant operation in the hospital. Chairman of Medanta Hospitals Dr Naresh Trehan said that the cost of transplantation is around Rs 12 to 15 lakh but the hospital management charged only Rs 5 lakh from the family.”
He also announced to perform the transplant surgeries for free if the government supports in providing medicines and other necessary requirements.
Medanta Hospital is looking forward to start bone marrow transplant soon.
