Indore: With the withdrawal of nominations by the rebels on Wednesday, it is now certain that there will be direct contest between candidates of BJP and Congress in all nine constituencies of Indore district. Withdrawal of papers by Kamlesh Khandelwal from Indore-1 has strengthened hands of Congress’ Sanjay Shukla while withdrawal of papers by Lalit Porwal from Indore-3 has made the saffron candidate, Akash Vijayvargiya, quite stronger.

Withdrawal of candidatures by Khandelwal and another rebel Golu Agnihotri, Congress candidate Shukla is in a strong position as both the rebels pledged to support him. Golu was pacified by Congress leader Deepak Bawariya while Kamlesh took the decision of withdrawing candidature at the last moment on Wednesday. In 2013, Kamlesh had contested the election as independent and was runner- up then pushing Congress candidate to the third position. On the last day of withdrawal of nominations, 15 candidates withdraw their names. Now, in all 96 candidates are in the field in 9 constituencies.
