Indore: Police book in-laws for demanding Rs. 37 lakh in dowry

The police on Monday booked seven people for demanding Rs 35 lakh in dowry from a 27-year-old woman in Badi Gwaltoli. According to police, victim Kanika Sisodiya said she got married to Mukesh Sisodiya eight months back. After few days of marriage, her husband and others including Kailash Verma, Rekha Verma, Satish Verma, Neeti Verma, Sangeeta Verma and Jitendra Verma started demanding Rs 35 lakh.

The victim told police that her father had given Rs 1 lakh and other households goods in marriage. On refusing to bring Rs 34 lakh, the accused started torturing her physically and mentally. On October 28, the accused thrashed the victim following which she reported the matter to police. The police have booked the in-laws and are investigating the incident.

In another incident, the police on Monday booked four people for demanding Rs 2 lakh as dowry from a 27-year-old woman in Ram Nagar. Victim Sheetal Pawar alleged that her husband Nilesh Pawar, in-laws Sushila, Baburao and Kailash demanded Rs 2 lakh from her on February 25, 2018. On refusing, they harassed her. The police are investigating the incident.
