Indore: Patient’s kin create ruckus at MYH, blame docs for his death

The family members of a 20-year-old boy created ruckus in Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital after his death during surgery on Monday. The relatives of the deceased pelted stones in hospital campus as they charged doctors with medical negligence. Police intervened to control the situation.

Deepak Verma, resident of Bhagirathpura, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night with the complaint of stomach ache.  “On Monday morning, doctors told us that Deepak is serious and they have to perform surgery immediately. They didn’t even let my parents come to hospital to take decision and forced me to sign consent papers,” Karan Verma, deceased’s brother, said.

He said doctors took Deepak inside operation theatre at 11 am and declared him dead half an hour later. “Deepak died due to medical negligence or by overdose of anesthesia,” Karan alleged. Meanwhile, surgeon Dr RS Raikwar told mediapersons that patient’s condition was critical as his intestines had shrunk.

“He had infection in lungs. He died due to cardiac arrest before surgery started. Everything will become clear in postmortem report,” Dr Raikwar said. The MY Hospital administration has formed an inquiry committee led by Dr RK Mathur to report in the matter.
