Indore: Owner of property housing molestation accused Dixit baba’s ashram booked

  • Action taken after 3 minor girls were rescued from ashram on Monday night
  • Delhi HC orders CBI investigation, slams Delhi Police for not taking any action on various FIRs of victims

Indore : City police on Tuesday booked the owner of the property from where the ashram of molestation-accused self-styled godman Virendra Dixit was being run for last many years. The action was taken after three minor girls were rescued from the ashram on Monday night.

“We came to know about a spiritual centre of the ‘godman’ in Subhash Nagar area of the city. We raided the centre on Monday night and rescued three girls, out of which two are from Bihar and one from West Bengal,” deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Harinarayan Chari Mishra said.

Deputy superintendent of police Aarti Singh recorded statements of the victims who reportedly informed police that they were staying in the ashram out of their own will. Medical examination of the girls was also done by the police.

“The two girls have been sent to Childline India Foundation, a non-government organisation for children in distress, and the third to Nari Niketan, and the owner of the property is also booked for not informing the police about the irregularities taking place on the premises,” the DIG said.

Like many other cities, Virendra Dixit was also running an ashram namely Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya in Pardeshipura area of the city.

Sources claimed that the baba had visited the city ashram last in July 2017 and stayed there just for a few hours before moving to some other destination. The registers recovered from the ashram also mentioned names of several other women, including some old women as visitors to the ashram, the sources added.

Notably, last week, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) had rescued more than 45 minor girls from two different ashrams run by Dixit where girls and women were allegedly being kept in illegal confinement in the name of religious preaching.

The Delhi High Court has ordered a CBI investigation into the matter and slammed the Delhi Police for not taking any action on various FIRs of girls and women allegedly lured to an ashram in Rohini area on the pretext of spiritual guidance and raped there.

Dixit is on the run ever since the raids on his national capital-based ashrams last week.
