Indore: MYH SHOCKER II: Oxygen supply line in labour room leaks mid delivery

Indore: Yet again, chaos prevailed at Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital after oxygen supply line in the labour room developed leakage on Sunday.
More shockingly, the leakage took place when an operation for delivery was underway in the labour room, located on first floor of the biggest government run medical facility of state. Fed up with lapses caused by poor maintenance of the oxygen line, especially after the death of 11 people due to similar cut in supply couple of months ago, hospital insiders lodged a complaint with senior officials, including hospital superintendent Dr VS Pal and acting dean of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Dr Salil Bhargava.

“A panic like situation prevailed in the gynecology unit on Sunday when a delivery of a woman was underway. The leakage was in the movable oxygen pipe and jar attached with the wall to wall supply line of oxygen,” a hospital source said. She added that they heard the sound of leakage and immediately informed the senior officials to take quick action. Meanwhile, chaos prevailed in the hospital after the news was spread, as hospital hurried to fix the snag. However, technician from a private hospital were called in, who took about an hour to repair the leakage.

On the other hand, staff had arranged an oxygen cylinder to complete the delivery successfully. Both mother and baby are healthy and they were shifted to ward, a senior consultant said. She added that they have dashed off a letter to the superintendent and the dean regarding the poor maintenance of the oxygen supply line and demanded them to take immediate action. Superintendent of MY Hospital, Dr VS Pal didn’t respond the call to comment on the issue. Dr Bhargava said that I was informed about the leakage, which was fixed immediately by the hospital staff.
