Indore Municipal Corporation Shuts Kabit Khedi Treatment Plant

Indore: A day after chlorine gas leaked from a cylinder at water treatment plant in Kabit Khedi affecting health of people in 15 colonies, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Wednesday shut down the facility and issued termination notices to two companies that were looking after different works there. The Corporation served termination notices on Eco Camp and Dalal & Dalal company.

While Eco Camp company looked after maintenance work, Dalal & Dalal company supplied chlorine to the facility. Besides, IMC constituted a committee to probe into leak incident directing it to submit its report within a week. “The IMC has acted swiftly into the matter,” claimed additional municipal commissioner Sandeep Soni. He said IMC has shut down ill-fated plant for time being.

“All the chlorine gas cylinders at facility have been moved out and it has been closed,” he said. According to Soni, IMC constituted committee comprising experts from Grasim factory (Nagda), MP Pollution Control Board, health department and him. The committee has been asked to find out people responsible for the incident. It has also been asked to suggest measures to prevent similar incidents in future. The committee has been told to complete inquiry within seven days and submit report. On Tuesday, a chlorine gas cylinder leaked from water treatment plant in Kabit Khedi triggering panic in localities around the facility.
