Indore: More and more girl students from engineering and science background are finding place in the labs of Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), which played a crucial role in discovery of Gold Particle in 2012.

The RRCAT has released second list of 48 students placed at its labs for winter project work taking the total number of students placed so far to 88. Previously, this premier centre had placed 40 students out of which about 50 per cent students were girls.

A closer look at the second list revealed that the percentage of girl students placed at RRCAT labs have broken previous record.  Out of 48 students placed at RRCAT, more than 25 are girl students which make over 62 per cent.

The list also revealed that maximum number of students making it to the RRCAT is from Madhya Pradesh. Total 21 students out of 48 are from MP followed by 12 from Kerala.

Six students are from Jabalpur, five each from Indore and Gwalior, four from Bhopal, and one from Ratlam.

Of the five local students three are from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya and two from Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS).

RRCAT offers opportunities to the students pursuing degree in science and engineering from recognised institutions in the country for carrying out project work towards partial fulfilment of their degree. Presently projects are offered to students pursuing the following degrees in MPhil, MSc, ME and MTech.

This scheme has no prescribed training programme/curriculum. Each selected student has to carry out the project individually under the guidance of a scientist/engineer of RRCAT, on all working days. Project duration is from minimum six months up to twelve months.

To apply for the project work from RRCAT, the student needs to send his/her application in the prescribed form. Application for the project work must be accompanied with the certificate of bona fide student issued only by principal/ head of the institute.

Selection criteria are the academic profile of the student and availability of suitable project guide in the area of interest of the student. Period for the winter and summer projects will be from December to June and June to December respectively in the calendar year.
