Indore: The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College administration on Thursday gave chit to doctors and staff of ophthalmology department in the case of issuing fake blindness certificates. The college administration had launched an internal probe after Dr Sanjeev Agrawal lodged a complaint with Deputy Inspector General of Police Harinarayanachari Mishra on May 28.

In the complaint, he had said that fake blindness certificates were issued by doctors in ophthalmology department. College dean Dr Sharad Thora said no anomaly was found. “Dr Agrawal had claimed that fake blindness certificates are being issued by the junior doctors in ophthalmology department but what he had given as proofs were vision test reports,” Dr Thora said.

He said that Dr Agrawal neither informed the HoD nor the college authorities about the issue and approached police directly with false claims. According to Dr Thora, blindness certificates are issued by civil surgeon and not by MY Hospital. “We summoned ophthalmology HoD Dr Vijay Bhaisare to report in the matter. What he has informed us is some internal tussle among the doctors as Dr Agrawal had a clash with junior doctors sometime back,” he said.

However, police will investigate the matter as the complaint was lodged with them. College authorities have sent a report to the higher officials in Bhopal to inform them about the matter.
