Indore: Irked over delay in broadening work, residents block road for hour

Indore: Hassled by the delay in broadening Khandwa Road, large number of local residents on Sunday morning blocked the one of the busiest roads of city for ten minutes to mark their protest and demanded Indore Municipal Corporation to start the work within a week. The angry residents also called public representatives, including MLA Jitu Patwari and corporator Pushpendra Singh Chauhan to inform them about the trouble they are facing due to round-the-clock traffic jam on the road and warned of blocking the road for two hours on every Sunday if their demand was not met.

Agitating residents alleged that the government has planned for contrasting the six lane road from Tejaji Nagar onwards, on the other side of bypass, but the local administration and civic body have left the road abandoned. “We are protesting against poor policies of civic body as they are not broadening the road even after various requests and complaints. The road is one of the entrances to the city and the busiest one, but still the officials are in slumber,” resident Ravi Dangi said. He said that they have lodged various complaints but no action has been taken yet in the case due to which we had to stage blockade.

Another resident Mahesh Singh said, “At least one commuter die in mishap on this road everyday as the road has been facing the burden of thousands of the people.” He added that the road is just 22 feet but it takes the pressure of the traffic of 104 feet.
“Even after many deaths, no action has been taken by the administration which forced us to stage demonstration. We will continue to stage demonstration every week till our demands were not met,” Singh added.

Meanwhile, MLA Jitu Patwari said that he will join the protest with the residents every week and the administration will be responsible for any trouble to the commuters. “Thousands of people cross through the road and it takes more than 45 minutes to cross the road of only three kilometers due to the narrow road and high traffic pressure,” Patwari said.

What They Say
We have lodged various complaints earlier and requested the civic body for broadening the road. But, it all fell on deaf ears. We will block the road for two hours on every weekend if our demands are not met.

Traffic problem is the major concern for us. About 60-70 thousand people are living in the area and they have to face traffic jam every day. Many schools, townships, and commercial institutions fall on this road and IMC has been collecting tax from us but not giving us facilities.
