Mhow: Vijay Diwas was celebrated here at the Infantry school here on Friday to commemorate India’s resounding victory in 1971 war against Pakistan which led to the liberation of Bangladesh on December 16, 1971.

The day is very important in the annals of the history of Independent India. In swift and short operation of just 13 days, the Indian Army defeated Pakistan Army and it was on this day that the Indian forces captured Dhaka and liberated the erstwhile East Pakistan. 93,000 Pakistani soldiers were forced to surrender and Bangladesh was declared an independent nation. Vijay Diwas is a glorious and a sacred day. On this day the Army pays homage to all those martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation.

Infantry School celebrated Vijay Diwas at Infantry Memorial. Senior officers both serving and retired, of Mhow station laid wreath and paid tributes to the fallen fellow soldiers in the 1971 operations.
