Indore: Indore gets tag of ‘I-T capital of state’

Indore: Indore gets the tag of ‘IT Capital of state’ with the starting of two new IT Special Economic Zones (IT-SEZs) as giants like Infosys and TCS began operation in the city from Friday. With this, the total number of SEZs in the state has gone up to 5 and all are located in and around Indore.

As the financial year 2016-17 came to an end on Friday, two IT SEZs—Infosys Technology and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) opened their campuses at Super Corridor. A top-ranking Infosys official confirmed the development saying that the company started operation from its Super Corridor campus.  They further said that the TCS also followed the suit. However, no official from both companies failed to give official comments over the development.

This correspondent made to contact TCS but no response was received from the IT major. It was mandatory for both the IT giants to kick start operation before March 31 as per the by-laws of SEZ. The start was only symbolic in nature as the first-phase of campus is not yet over.  It is said that completion of campus work would take 3 to four years.  Both the companies have pledged to invest Rs 600 crore each. They also have promised to offer 50% of total employment to state candidates only. Under the new IT policy, 100 hectare and 120 hectare land are allotted to TCS and Infosys respectively at concessional rate of Rs 20 lakh per hectare.

City bags all SEZs of state

With starting for IT SEZs of Infosys and TCS, total number of operational SEZs in the state has gone up to 5. This could be a proud moment for the city that all five SEZs are located in the city only, which gives it the tag of ‘Software development capital of the state’ as well.

The first and country’s only multiproduct SEZ is operational in Pithampur, the second one is IT SEZ commonly known as Crystal IT Park on Ring Road, third one is Impetus IT SEZ and now Infosys and TCS SEZs have come up at Super Corridor.
